JOB SUMMARY

Join our team as a Regional H&S Lead EU, where you will play a critical leadership role in strengthening health and safety performance across Nyrstar’s European operations. Combining strategic oversight with strong operational presence, you will help drive a culture where safety leadership is visible, standards are consistently applied, and operational teams are empowered to take ownership of safe performance every day. This role is ideal for a safety leader who combines strategic thinking with operational credibility and is passionate about creating safer, more accountable, and high-performing workplaces across a complex industrial environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive measurable improvements in Health & Safety (H&S), Occupational Health (OH), and Process Safety Management (PSM) performance across EU operations.
  • Provide visible, field-based leadership through regular site presence and direct engagement with frontline teams and site leadership.
  • Ensure H&S standards, procedures, and critical controls are effectively implemented and consistently applied in practice.
  • Strengthen leadership accountability and foster a proactive, high-performance safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Coach and support site leadership teams to reinforce safe behaviors, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct field verifications, audits, and assurance activities to confirm that critical risks are effectively managed.
  • Intervene where standards are not met and support the implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
  • Lead initiatives that close the gap between safety standards and operational execution.
  • Oversee global H&S data management processes and ensure accurate, reliable reporting aligned with CSRD requirements.
  • Maintain robust assurance and verification practices to ensure reported performance reflects actual site conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with operational, technical, and corporate stakeholders to align safety performance with Trafigura expectations and international best practices.
  • Support the ongoing development of a strong “boots-on-the-floor” safety culture built on visible leadership, accountability, and engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Professional H&S certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA EU, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • 8–10 years of health and safety management experience within heavy industry environments such as smelting, mining, metals processing, or similar high-risk operations.
  • Proven experience leading regional or multi-site H&S programs, including team leadership and budget management.
  • Strong knowledge of EU health and safety legislation, Seveso Directive requirements, incident management, occupational health programs, and behavior-based safety practices.
  • Demonstrated operational credibility with the ability to identify field-level risks and engage effectively with frontline teams, technical specialists, and operational leadership.
  • Deep technical understanding of H&S management systems and operational safety planning.
  • Strong analytical, data management, and reporting capabilities, including experience with audit-ready reporting processes and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across all organizational levels.
  • Able to translate operational challenges into practical actions and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch, French, German language skills are an advantage.
